Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi warned Saturday that he will take drastic actions against militants who attacked an army checkpoint at the Sinai Peninsula, in a move which he regarded as a "foreign conspiracy."
The Egyptian president gave the statement during a media conference before the military funeral of the 30 slain military men, adding that the attack was conspired by foreign forces in order to "break the back of Egypt."

In addition, al-Sissi said Egypt is currently engaged in a long and extensive battle wherein extreme measures will be taken in order to combat the militants.
"There is a big conspiracy against us," the Egyptian president said a day after the attack, which is now regarded as the deadliest in the history of the Egyptian military in decades.
The militants attacked the troops at a Sinai checkpoint Friday in a suidide attack, using a car bomb. The rebels also set up rocket-propelled grenades and expolsives to target rescue groups.
Following the attack, the government imposed a curfew from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the northern part of the peninsula and has declared a state of emergency.
Additionally, al-Sissi has urged Egyptian citizens to be "steadfast and vigilant" and to raise their awareness on what foreign powers are planning against the country.
Militant groups have yet to claim responsibility for the attack, but reports alleged that the mode of operations used in the attack was reminiscent of the militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which has launched several attacks against government troops after the Islamist president Mohamed Morsi was ousted last year.
According to the Egyptian president, they have expected the events to unfold after they overthrew Morsi in July 3.
Meanwhile, the government has blamed majority of the terrorist attacks in Egypt on Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood, which was tagged as a terrorist group in 2013.
However, the Brotherhood has denied allegations that it had anything to do with the army assault and has offered condolences to the families of the slain troops.
