Taylor Swift Named NYC Ambassador, Times Square New Year's Eve Performer

It was a busy Monday for pop star Taylor Swift as she was named New York City Global Ambassador and Time Square New Year's Eve headline performer, along with the release of her new album "1989."

Swift appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" where she heard the good news about New Year's Eve. Earlier, she was named Global Welcome ambassador for tourism by NYC Go, New York City's official marketing, tourism and partnership group.

Earlier in the day, NYC Go wasted no time with its new global ambassador, posting videos Swift made touting the city's attractions. NYC GO led off its website homepage with the admonition that visitors should join Swift and 55 million other tourists each year to "Get inspired. Be transformed. Plan your visit now."

The 24-year-old Swift told GMA's Robin Roberts she was very vocal about her love of the amazing city. Being named global ambassador was "the craziest, coolest thing," Swift said. "I'm so enthusiastic about this city that I feel like, when I love something, I'm very vocal about it."

The New York connection was the theme of Swift's day. Her fifth album "1989" hit the streets Monday. Its breakout song is "Welcome to New York." She said New York was the "huge landscape" for the album.

Swift now has a home in the Big Apple, too. She recently bought a $20 million deluxe apartment in the city that last week she called "a place of endless potential and possibilities," adding, "you can hear that reflected in this music and this first song especially."

As for Times Square,, New Year's Eve, Swift will headline the popular "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015." The annual show goes along with the timeless dropping of the ball at Times Square officially ushering out the new year and bringing in the new for the city and nation.

Swift said she was "so excited," about the honor, adding, "It's going to be so great to be back here for New Year's."
