Jeb Bush took a dig at Hillary Clinton Wednesday night for her remarks last week when she said that businesses do not create jobs while at a rally for Sen. Elizabeth Warren last week, a move that some believe could presage the course of the 2016 presidential race.

The former Florida governor was in swing state Colorado pitching for Republican Senate candidate Rep. Cory Gardner and gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez, a few days after Clinton visited to stump for Democratic incumbent Mark Udall.

While speaking to a crowd of conservative Castle Rock residents in Denver, Bush began by saying that he saw something "breathtaking" last week when a former state secretary campaigning in Massachusetts essentially told people that businesses do not create jobs.

The fact is, there are not enough jobs in America today but employment opportunities are actually created by businesses, Bush said.

Clinton has since then claimed her words were a slip-up.

However, Republicans keen on undermining her chances for 2016 presidential bid pounced at the gaffe and have been going at it all week.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has already poked fun at Clinton's remark twice -- first in Wichita on Tuesday then another in Overland Park, Kansas later in the day. Paul is seen as a viable 2016 GOP candidate.

Both Bush, brother to former President George W. Bush, and Clinton are believed to be strong 2016 candidates for the GOP and Democratic Party, respectively. Neither have confirmed a presidential bid as of yet but answers from both are expected by early next year.

On Sunday, the former Florida governor's son George P. Bush told media it was likely his father would run in 2016. Separately, Bush's other son Jeb Bush, Jr. said the whole clan is ready to offer support should Bush decide to try for the White House.

Meanwhile, the "Ready for Hillary" political action committee is reportedly spending some US$23,000 a day to prepare for the former secretary of state's second presidential run, the Boston Globe reported.
