Target's loss could be Hollywood's gain as Target cashier Alex LaBeouf flew on Tuesday to Los Angeles for meetings with talent agents.

Thanks to the tweet of a female Target shopper that went viral, the handsome 16-year-old from Dallas, Texas, who now has more than 660,000 followers on social media sites, would probably never scan or bag another product at the giant retailer as he moved from anonymity to fame.

While in Hollywood, Alex guested on Ellen DeGeneres' show which was also the launching pad of other YouTube sensations such as lesbian Filipina singer Charice Pempengco.

Various YouTube postings of Alex's Wednesday guesting have so far logged more than 1.5 million views.

Since he has been working with Target for the past 3 months, Alex told Degeneres that he had noticed some shoppers surreptitiously take his photo using their mobile phones. The teenager appeared at the show wearing his red T-shirt and khaki pants Target uniform.

Alex initially thought the viral photo that his manager showed was fake, but minutes later several female shopper came and showed Alex his Twitter page which had, in a matter of minutes, 5,000 followers who were only 144 before his photo became viral. Alex currently has more than half a million Twitter followers.

While in Hollywood, Alex has the chance to meet William Morris Endeavour who runs one of the most powerful talent agencies in movieland, reports TMZ.

His rise to fame, however, was claimed in a LinkedIn post by Breakr, a Los Angeles-based social media marketing firm. But both Alex and the unnamed fan girl who made him a social media star deny the link to Breakr. Target also belied that it was behind the rise of their new employee to fame.

But some Twitter members noted his surname and asked if he is related to actor Shia LaBeouf.

Jeebus Christos tweeted, "On great ... just what we need ... ANOTHER Labeouf!" apparently in reference to the "Transformer" and "Nymphomaniac" star's recent run-in with the law.

Still, a lot of the tweets were from adoring girls, such as KR who wrote that Alex's eyes are so pretty. These are the same girls who would likely be screaming fans when Alex makes the successful transition from cashier to an actor laughing his way to the bank while counting his own millions.
