Online video portals in China are aiming to make reality TV show The Big Brother Chinese Edition a huge hit.
The Big Brother has a lot of worldwide editions aired by local TV channels. Meanwhile, the TV show launched in China will be shown online.
The developer of the reality show, Endemol, has inked a deal with the biggest online video platform in China, Youku Tudou. The agreement was later on announced by Endemol Asian operations CEO Arjen van Mierlo.

Mierlo said bringing the reality show online in China will allow Endemol and Youku to reach out to a younger audience. He also said the two show developers aimed to give their audience a unique and interactive experience for Chinese fans.
Big Brother would be available by 2015 on Youku. The show would run for 10 weeks and can be viewed by more than 500 million Youku users. The production of the reality show has already flown to Beijing for the production.
Netherlands-based Endemol has previously teamed with local Chinese programs before the government restricted reality shows aired on TV. This led Endemol joining online platforms to show their programs.
In 2013, the Chinese authorities announced that by January 2015, Chinese TV stations will be allowed to permit one foreign show to be aired each year. The mandate has made it even harder for new players in the industry to penetrate the biggest TV market in the world.
Big Brother is among the biggest hit from Endemol aside from Fear Factor, Love in the Wild and many others. In the United States, Big Brother is aired through CBS-TV. This year, the reality TV show has been available in more than 70 countries.
Chardan Capital Markets Senior Vice President Jack Liu said the Internet portals have become flexible than shows aired on television. Meanwhile, Attract China CEO Evan Saunders said he is positive with the capabilities of internet websites in China.
