Sony Smartwatch 3 Available On Google Play Store

A few months after its unveiling, Sony Smartwatch 3 has been added to the Google Play Store. This is the first Android Wear smartwatch from Sony after ditching a custom OS.
Contrary to popular demand, Sony has slapped a rather large rectangular display on the Sony Smartwatch 3. This comes at a time when Android Wear fans are looking at the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R as the top smartwatches in 2014.

Similar to Sony's Xperia smartphone line, the Smartwatch 3 will be water resistant, offering more versatility on trips. The Smartwatch 3 is the first smartwatch to have a built-in GPS chip, allowing the watch to track the user's location without a paired smartphone.
That said, Android Wear still requires a paired smartphone to do a lot of tasks. Sony has been pretty absent from the Google Play Store - its last entry being the Sony Xperia Z Ultra (Google Play Edition) last year.
Sony Smartwatch 3 is on the expensive end of the Android Wear range, the LG G Watch R is the only device topping it. Reports say the Apple Watch will cost $499 or $349 for the Apple Watch Sport, which would cost more than the Sony Smartwatch 3.
Sony, like LG, has a tendency to ditch their products after six months in favor of a new model. LG has already done this with the G Watch R, a better smartwatch than the G Watch, firmly placing LG among the best in the smartwatch industry.
It wouldn't be a surprise if the Sony Smartwatch 3 received a more premium version for $100 more early next year. For those thinking about buying the smartwatch, perhaps wait a little longer to see what Sony pulls out of the bag next year, when the Apple Watch also hits the market.
