Tencent's reported a drop in total revenue of RMB 2.6 billion ($424 million) in the mobile gaming industry. Tencent claims the drop is largely in part due to "delayed launches of upgrades." But other factors could also be taking place

According to a report from Tech in Asia, the PC gaming industry is still booming in China, and anyone lucky enough to have a hit can plan on having success for multiple years.
The top four PC games among the current Top 10 PC games in China since September are multiple years old. These include the 10-year-old World of Warcraft, nine-year-old Dungeon & Fighter, seven-year-old Crossfire and three-year-old League of Legends.
It's clear that PC gamers in China doesn't necessarily stray away from games they like and will end up sticking with it for years. However, the same can't be said for mobile gaming.
According to Tech in Asia, statistics show mobile gamers in China only play games for a couple of months before uninstalling and looking to try out a new one. Even hardcore mobile gamers seem to move on to other games rather quickly.
This current trend among mobile game consumers has led to great difficulty for Tencent to capitalize on bringing in revenue from the industry. Even when certain games become popular, they usually only have a few months of success before gamers move on.
Tencent is going to need learn consumer trends and figure out a way to make mobile gaming more enjoyable and addicting to attract more loyal gamers.
