Brooklyn Nets Aims to Build Gobal Brand with Chinese Partnerships

The Brooklyn Nets have announced new partnerships with two Chinese companies in an effort to build its global awareness and brand.

The NBA team will now be affiliated with Chinese athletic-footwear company ANTA, and Beijing-based digital-products distributor Lava Tech. The partnership deals were reportedly in the process of being completed when the Nets traveled to China last month to participate in sold-out pre-season games in Shanghai and Beijing.

"As we saw with their recent participation in the NBA Global Games, the Brooklyn Nets are enormously popular in China," said ANTA CEO Ding Shizhong. "This partnership will allow us to continue elevating our brand awareness and to further basketball's growth in China."

As part of the partnership, ANTA and Lava Tech will have electronic displays marketing their companies, which will be visible on national television during all Nets games at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Although exact details have yet to be released, ANTA will likely sponsor the Nets by providing athletic-footwear to its players in addition to marketing the team in China. Lava Tech will be distributing and marketing all Nets' merchandise including jerseys and hats around China.

"Our goal is to be a global team, and in order to be global, you need to be relevant in China," said Brett Yormark, CEO of the Brooklyn Nets. "These partnerships help fulfill that objective."

ANTA has already sponsored Nets' power forward Kevin Garnett with endorsements back when he was playing for the Boston Celtics in 2010. Garnett reportedly had the two organizations meet last year, and both sides have been working on finalizing a deal ever since.

According to Forbes, the Brooklyn Nets are currently the fifth-most valuable team in the NBA, worth more than $780 million.
