Due to suspected defects in fuel pumps, more than half a million cars in mainland China will be recalled by three Chinese automakers, the country's quality watchdog announced today.

The three Chinese auto manufacturers - Brilliance Auto, Great Wall Motors and Chery Automobile - will implement the recall starting from 15 December of this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine announced in a statement posted on its website.

According to China's top quality supervisor, the recall, which involved 559,882 vehicles, was ordered due to suspicions that the vehicles have defective pipe flange brackets that can lead to gas leakage and pose potential danger to motorists.

The recall involves the three car manufacturers because they had the same supplier for their fuel pumps. The automakers used fuel pumps manufactured by United Automobile Electronic Systems Co Ltd.

The recall covers vehicles on mainland China that were manufactured by the three Chinese car makers from March 2005 to January 2014.

Dealers of the three automakers will replace the flawed parts for free, the quality supervisor said.

China's quality watchdog has been announcing recalls to ensure that Chinese auto consumers are protected from quality defects and flaws in the vehicles they purchase.

Last week, Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor is recalling at least 15,000 Hyundai Veracruz SUVs in China due to possible fuel leakage problem.

The recall involves Hyundai Veracruz SUV produced from 8 January 2007 to 12 March 2012. The recall will begin on 18 November.

Recalled vehicles will be inspected and repaired by Hyundai dealers in China. Faulty parts will be replaced free of charge.

Meanwhile, China's Passenger Car Association said sales of passenger-vehicles in the country grew at a faster pace in October as dealers offer more incentives and discounts.

The group said a total of 1.66 million units of cars, multi-purpose and sport utility vehicles were sold in October.

One analyst said car dealers in China will even increase incentives and dangle more discounts in the next couple of months in order to meet full-year sales targets.
