AT&T Bumps 10GB Mobile Share Value Plan To 15GB Per Month

(Photo : Reuters) AT&T is planning to launch an Internet-based TV service under its DirecTV brand.

A data plan war has started among wireless companies as Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon Wireless all upgraded data plans to keep customers happy.

AT&T updated the Mobile Share Value Plan recently, doubling the data for 15GB, 30GB, 40GB and 50GB plans. For anyone who has owned a shared plan, this came as a welcome upgrade, especially if the other people using the plan tend to use up all of the data.

Returning to the upgrade cycle, AT&T has updated the 10GB data plan, and now customers will get 15GB per month to use. It is not surprising AT&T doesn't want to give 10GB per month customers double the data. Anything under 15GB per month is seen as a small monthly package for AT&T on the mobile shared plans, normally encompassing a family.

AT&T will offer its plan for a limited time, the same as the other double data plans before it. Users can sign onto their AT&T account or go to the AT&T app on their smartphone in order to upgrade the plan.

The data war started with Sprint offering double data for almost all customers in a move to add new customers. Verizon Wireless and AT&T both hopped on the bandwagon and T-Mobile has been competing on price instead.

Offering users more data is great, considering the amount of data use by apps like Netflix, YouTube and Vine/Instagram Video. In a time when 5GB is not enough for one user, having double the data is useful.

However, data prices are monthly contracts are still high in the U.S., compared to the rest of the world. President Obama recently said wireless networks should be put under Title II reclassification, the same as broadband services.
