So U2 had pulled out from their supposed week long residency at the Tonight Show because of Bono, lead singer of U2, had a bike accident and needed a surgery to repair it.
Because of that, there had been question as to who will replace the band during their absence. Jimmy Fallon had the answer, the show must go on.

While Fallon wished Bono well, the host said that they have never encountered this kind of situation before and it got him thinking who they will get to perform on their show now.
Then the bulb on top of his head turned on and gave him a very bright idea! Why look for a replacement when the show itself already have the best band in the world playing for them every single night, The Roots.
So without further ado, Fallon pulled out a pair of dark glasses and a hat, which is Bono's trademark, and joined the house band to sing 'Desire'.
This song was a hit single from U2's Rattle and Hum album in 1988. Fallon imitated Bono so well, from the singer's voice to his posture and Fallon even played the harmonica. What can U2 say about that?
They released a statement on their website stating that the show had to come up with the next best thing which is Jimmy Fallon and The Roots performing and thought that the show was sensational. One fan even said on the comments that Fallon can fill anytime.
Fallon then ended the show by plugging the latest album of U2 which is Songs of Innocence. All in all it was still a great show and the crowd really enjoyed being there. Kudos to Jimmy Fallon and The Roots!
