Bono's condition is not just a mere arm injury. In fact, his doctor revealed that he has endured multiple fractures, making surgery a necessity, Rolling Stone revealed.

The actor who survived a near plane-crash incident last week, was involved in a "high energy bicycle accident" while trying to avoid a cyclist in New York.

The U2 front man was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center's Emergency Department where he underwent "multiple X-rays and CAT scans."

Five hours of surgery was then performed.

In a statement from Dr. Dean Lorich, the singer sustained the following

1. Left facial fracture in orbit of the singer's eye.

2. Left scapula (shoulder blade) fracture in three separate pieces.

3. Left compound distal humerus fracture where the bone of his humerus was driven though his skin and the bone was in six different pieces.

4. Fracture of his 5th metacarpal.

Dr. Lorich explained that Bono was immediately rushed to the operating room "where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws."

Bono underwent a second procedure to fix his fractured left pinky finger.

While it's still unclear how long the singer will be recuperating, Lorich tells Rolling Stone that Bono will "require intensive and progressive therapy," but "a full recovery is expected."

The severity of Bono's condition will definitely affect the band's upcoming tour. The group has already postponed their weeklong stint in Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show given the absence of the group's lead.

"It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down," the band issued a statement on their website following Bono's accident.

The group then thanked Jimmy Fallon and staff for their sympathy and understanding.

After his surgery Bono will undergo intensive and progressive therapy for full recovery, which will take quite some time.
