MBB is supported by the China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT, GSMA and Huawei. The new program will serve as a research hub that aims to advance development of 5G mobile broadband technologies.
Reports say both companies plan to test 5G networking technologies that will deliver near-zero-delay and near-zero-distance experience to SingTel customers.
"SingTel Group is constantly seeking opportunities to advance the technologies that bring the best communications experience to our customers throughout the region." said Tay Soo Meng, SingTel's CTO.
"We are pleased to participate in this 5G Joint Innovation Program with Huawei to keep abreast and appreciate 5G technologies to ensure SingTel continue its technology leadership in the mobile communications domain as we move towards the 5G era."
Meng said 5G is the future of mobile networks, which will be the ultimate platform for a connected world.
"The launch of this 5G joint innovation program with the SingTel Group clearly shows that we are fully committed to its successful development." said Ryan Ding, Huawei's president of products and solutions.
"Both parties are extremely optimistic and excited about the future of 5G technologies and the benefits it will bring to customers."
Huawei also recently invested US$8 million in the University of Surrey in the U.K to expand research and development for 5G networks.
