Apple iPhone 6 Plus Most Popular In Asia

(Photo : Reuters) Apple is apparently preparing a public-beta program for iOS 8.3 in March.

Apple does break out individual sales figures between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, leaving investors to estimate or even speculate on sales trends.

However, AppLovin, a mobile advertiser and data analysis group, claims the iPhone 6 is ahead by 5:1 in most countries, but that Asian countries seem to be more inclined to buy the iPhone 6 Plus than the rest of the world.

Japan, China, Philippines and Vietnam all sit at 40 percent iPhone 6 Plus sales, with 60 percent going to the iPhone 6. Compare this to the U.S. where 80 percent of sales go to the iPhone 6, there is a big difference in trends.

It is not surprising that Asia is the dominant buyer of iPhone 6 Plus units, considering phablets outsell all laptops and tablets in the region. The Galaxy Note 4 has had the most success in South Korea and other Asian countries, alongside other phablet devices.

Interestingly, South Korea, known for its love of phablet, still has a moderate 71 percent iPhone 6 to 29 percent iPhone 6 Plus rate. This might be due to Samsung and LG's strong hold in the country, with customers still unsure about Apple products.

Apple announced 39 million sales earlier this month and reports say the company is preparing to sell 80 million before the end of 2015.

The report also notes how iOS 8 adoption continues to straggle behind previous updates. Apple announced 50 percent, but AppLovin sees around 45 percent of users on iOS 8, compared to 70 percent at the same time for iOS 7.

There are plenty of reasons why iOS 8 has lagged behind. The update was over 5GB making it hard for 16GB users to update, iOS 8.0.1 had a plethora of bugs that cautioned users away and the update did not have any major changes for older devices.

Apple has always taunted Windows and Android for fragmentation, and while iOS is still a solid service, with almost 50 percent on iOS 8 and the other 50 on iOS 7, if Apple continues to slow the pace of updates, it might hurt the speed in which users update their device.
