The British-Iranian woman identified as Ghoncheh Ghavami, who had been detained for watching a men's volleyball game back in Iran, was finally freed by paying a bail as announced by her family.
According to her family, she was freed because of health problems as she stayed with her parents in Tehran. She had been reportedly awaiting the decision of the Court of Appeal.

She was then released after serving five months of a supposed one year sentence and reportedly paid US$38,000. Ghavami has also been imposed with a two-year travel ban. The case will still be in court and Ghavami will be free until the Court of Appeal rules on the said case.
Ghavami was with a group of women who tried to watch the said match between Iran and Italy back in June 20 this year. However, the women were accused by Iranian prosecutors as having a part in the opposition groups formed in the country.
These women were said to be arrested thereafter and were allegedly beaten. They were then freed, but were again arrested and put to trial.
The lawyer of Ghavami said that they were being shown court documents on Nov. 2 that Ghavami has been found guilty of dispersing anti-regime propaganda. Her conviction has not been confirmed resulting to her family accusing the judiciary of keeping the case in a state of uncertainty.
Due to this, hunger strikes have been launched by Ghavami and there were hundreds of thousands of people who has signed a petition for her release. The hunger strike of Ghavami has led to intestinal problems and she is now asking for a full medical check-up due to her situation.
Also, the British have raised their concerns over this as Ghavami has a dual citizenship. However, this is not being recognized in Iran. She graduated from the University of London under the School of Oriental and African Studies and have volunteered to help street children in Iran.
Iran has been banning women from volleyball games ever since 2012 following the ban on football games. Iranian officials pressed that the bans were imposed in order to protect the women from the behavior of male fans watching the games.
