It was in 2012 when Robert Griffin III, more popularly known by his nickname RG3, started to make a name for himself in the National Football League (NFL) as a Washington Redskins quarterback.

Griffin played for Baylor University in college and took home the Heisman Trophy in 2011 for being the most outstanding college football player.

The Heisman Trophy winner advanced his team then to a division title before losing to Seattle that marked his knee injury. The injury, however, entailed intricate surgery and massive rehabilitation.

RG3, now fully recovered from 2012 injury, has been moved down to as a back-up quarterback to Colt McCoy. Redskins coach Jay Gruden was responsible for the decision.

"If you don't produce, then you have to maybe take a step back," says Gruden during a conference session following the announcement that RG3 will take the role of a back-up quarterback when the team competes with Indianapolis' Colts.

Gruden was also heard saying, " We just want him to work on his craft a little bit more." He further added that he wanted Griffin to have a little more confidence and faith in himself and in what he wants to achieve in life.

Although this may appear to be a dramatic downgrade in Griffin's entire career, Gruden mentions that the former major player is still a part of the team and that long term goals still include him.

Gruden further adds that RG3's demotion does not mean he is forever out of the game, but that another person like McCoy is just given the chance and opportunity to showcase his talents, too.

McCoy has proven worthy of the title after playing particularly well for Washington in two games for this season's league. He is a five-year veteran from Texas. He was the laudable replacement of Kirk Cousins and on Oct. 19, he guided the Redskins to winning over Tennessee on a 19-17 mark. He led the team again to victory against Dallas the week after, boasting of a completed 25 goals out of 30 passes.
