Sony Pictures Begins Active Investigation, FBI and FireEye Co-opting To Find Hackers Responsible

After one week of silence, Sony Pictures is apparently working with FireEye and the FBI to find the hackers responsible for the studios' temporary shut down.
Sony is finally fighting back against the #GOP hackers, after one week of darkness. The studio has not been able to access systems in a week, due to an orchestrated attack leading to vast amounts of information leaking onto the web.
The information might be gone, but Sony Pictures wants to find out who did it and get its systems back online. FireEye's Mandiant unit will be in charge of getting the system back online and finding any evidence for the FBI, who are also working on the investigation.

FireEye's Mandiant unit has been involved in many high profile attacks, including Target's 2013 hack. The unit is capable of finding the extent of the attack, neutralizing any issues and restoring the systems to normal form.
It is still unclear what the motive was for the attack, even though #GOP claim "Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton is evil", showing a potential feud between the group and the CEO, which lead to the attack.
Internally, executives reportedly believe North Korea is behind the attack. Sony Pictures is working on "The Interview", a new comedy film focusing on assassinating the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
North Korea has been very vocal of the issues with the film, set for release on Dec 25 in the U.S. and Canada. The government claims it is "undisguised sponsoring of terrorism, as well as an act of war", in a letter to UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon.
Sony has been almost silent towards the media regarding the attack, claiming it was just an internal IT issue and nothing more. Both the FBI and FireEye have declined to comment on working with Sony Pictures.
Inequality does not appear to be rife at Sony Pictures, one of the reasons "lena", one of the hackers involved with the #GOP group, gave for attacking the studio. In the interview, lena claimed to have worked with internal employees to get past safeguards.
Neither story has been backed up with evidence, but the attack was sophisticated enough to disrupt the entire work flow at Sony Pictures. That says a lot about the scale of the attack, and how much information it would take for it to work.
