HP Elitebook Folio 1020 Thieves Will Be Disappointed

(Photo : HP) Even for thieves who manage to get away with the HP Elitebook Folio 1020 won't be able to use the laptop, due to a new low energy chip, capable of shutting down the laptop.
Hewlett Packard is making sure thieves who manage to get away with the new Elitebook Folio 1020 do not get the full experience.
A new feature, used in mobiles and tablets, allows HP to remotely brick the laptop if it has been stolen. Once turned off, it will turn into nothing more than a paperweight.

Using a low-power ARM based chip inside the laptop, HP is able to verify if the laptop has been bought, or if it has been stolen. The verification process will begin the first time the thief boots up the laptop.
The chip also has GPS tracking to follow the thief and potentially get the laptop back to the store. The "Find My Phone" app on Android and iOS has allowed owners to get their phone back from thieves.
Microsoft is pushing more providers to implement this type of security for customers. Owners who have their device stolen can also complain to HP and get the device shut-down, removing the possibility of stolen data.
The HP Elitebook Folio 1020 looks to be the next top of the line laptop, capable of working for professionals and casual users. Hewlett Packard is targeting the BYOD market, which continues to grow as businesses allow personal devices.
Internally, the Elitebook Folio 1020 is running on an Intel Core M processor, 12GB of RAM and an optional 2560 x 1440 pixel display. No word on how much the laptop will retail for, we estimate around $900 to $1200 would be an optimal price for the specs.
