The Philadelphia 76ers finally break their 17-game losing streak with a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves (85-77). They avoid going down in the National Basketball Association (NBA) history for the wrong reasons, as the team with the worst start in NBA history.

The 76ers were in trouble of tying the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets who started that season off with 18 straight losses.

The game was a special one due to more than just the 76ers' first win.

The game also featured 2013 draft pick Nerlens Noel who missed all of last year due to a knee injury, and K.J. McDaniels' first victory in the NBA.

The start of the game was a bizarre one. At the start of the game, 16 seconds passed before Sixers center Henry Sims was fouled going to the rim.

Afterwards, the referees got together and deliberated. They ended up restarting the game.

Apparently, the teams had mixed up which hoop belonged to which team.

Thus, rather than risk some weird potential fallout from the mix-up, the referees decided to just redo it all and start from the beginning.

The bizarre start quickly turned to an appalling game.

At the half, the score was 34-42 in favor of the Timberwolves. When the scores were combined, they were fewer points combined than the 73 the Dallas Mavericks dropped on the 76ers in the first half of a 53-point win back in November.

A rare lead in the fourth was taken after the break by the 76ers.

They managed to hang on and close it out in the final quarter win for the fifth time in their last 54 games.

Michael Carter-Williams led the attack and fell just shy of a triple-double with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

The 76ers look to keep their win streak alive when they meet Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
