Sony Pictures Executives Were Warned Before Attack

(Photo : Reuters) Sony Pictures were pre-emptively warned of an attack from the #GOP group, an email sent 3 days before the initial attack confirms.
The data dump released by hacker group #GOP has provided lots of information on Sony Pictures, not all of it good, and most of it unsafe for disclosure.
One interesting part of the data dump consists of emails before the attack on Nov. 24. Three days before the attack, a group going under the alias God'sApstls sent a message to various executives including CEO Michael Lynton. The message, written in broken English, is below.

We've got great damage by Sony Pictures.
The compensation for it, monetary compensation we want.
Pay the damage, or Sony Pictures will be bombarded as a whole.
You know us very well. We never wait long.
You'd better behave wisely.
From God'sApstls
It is unclear if this was the first encounter between the group and Sony Pictures. The hackers claim to know Sony Pictures, driving on the idea of internal employees making the attack possible.
What is also interesting is the ransom for monetary compensation, the first time the hackers have asked for money. In an interview with The Verge after the attack, the hackers claim they want equality from Sony.
In other emails two weeks after the attack, the hacking group has said Sony needed to remove "The Interview" from cinemas. The movie — focusing on the assassination of North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un — has been labelled "an act of war" by North Korea.
The whole situation remains unclear, with the group unable to type correctly in Korean when sending a threatening email and reportedly administering the attack from St. Regis hotel in Bangkok.
The FBI is continuing its investigation into the attack. Sony Pictures may have to compensate stars and employees who have had their social security information, passwords and visas leaked.
