Lax building standards are possibly the reason behind the spate of building collapses in China. Two were recorded in a span of one week, the latest involving a kindergarten building in Yongqing County in Hebei Province which happened on Saturday at about 4:14 p.m.
Xinhua News Agency reported that three children from the Chunlei Kindergarten died in the Saturday incident after the roof collapsed. Three others were injured and brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The collapse is being investigated by local authorities. According to China Central Television, the state broadcaster, the police have held the person in charge of the kindergarten for investigation, reports Al Jazeera.
A wall also collapsed on an outdoor basketball court on Monday in eastern China, killing five middle school students.
On February 28, a similar incident killed one child and injured three kindergarten pupils at the Tuodian Village, Shihe District, Xinyang City of Henan Province. The owner of the school, named Yu, dismantled the wall between two rooms which affected the building's stability. The accident caused Yu to be hospitalized after he suffered a heart attack, but he was under police surveillance.
Lack of strict building construction standards is also seen as the reason behind the collapse of a school in Sichuan Province during the 2008 earthquake that caused 90,000 residents to be killed or reported as missing.
