The German-based company's technology include beta distribution platform, live crash reports, user feedback and test analysis tools.

"Microsoft has acquired HockeyApp! This is a tremendous opportunity to continue to provide developers with the best app development tools and users with the best app experiences." said HockeyApp.

Sivaramakrishnan Somasega, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Developers Division, said the company plans to take advantage of HockeyApp's technology and integrate it into their devices.

Microsoft intends to incorporate the technology into its Application Insights in Visual Studio Online. Visual Studio Online is an application that provides a view on the device's usage, performance and availability.

"Microsoft has been a HockeyApp customer with many apps since the early days back in 2011, so they were already familiar with the stability and quality of our service." HockeyApp added.

"Creating the best developer experience is key to both Microsoft and HockeyApp, this includes delivering industry leading tools for the major platforms: iOS, Android, OS X, Windows, and Windows Phone."
