The families of those who were killed during the Sandy Hook school massacre in 2012 filed a lawsuit in the United States on Monday against the manufacturers of the assault rifle that was used during the slaughter.
The lawsuit was filed a day after the two-year anniversary of the shooting that has resulted to the death of 26 people, 20 of which were very young children. The suit aims to hold the makers of the weapon responsible for the lives taken.

The weapon used was said to be an AR-15 from Bushmaster. The families want the manufacturer to held liable for the wrongful death of the victims and their negligence of selling the weapon.
The lawsuit says the 20-year-old killer identified as Adam Lanza would not have been able to carry out the 264-second attack if he did not have any access to such weapon. The gun was reportedly specifically engineered for the U.S. military and is supposed to be used only in combats.
"One of the Army's specifications for the AR-15 was that it has the capability to penetrate a steel helmet. This weapon was not designed for home defense or hunting," Attorney Josh Koskoff, legal representative of the families, said in a statement. "This weapon was designed to efficiently kill other human beings in combat."
There were a total of nine families who either lost a child or an adult during the killing of Lanza at Newtown on December 14, 2012. Aside from the families, a teacher identified as Natalie Hammon, was shot but survived, has also joined the lawsuit.
The Sandy Hook Massacre took the lives of children aged between six and seven and has sparked a national debate regarding gun control in the country. However, Congress has not yet made any progress in this issue despite the support of the American citizens.
