China to Issue More Visas to Top Professionals from Abroad

In order to attract foreign-high level professionals to fill a gap in China's talents, the central government said it will issue more R visas, or talent visas, for professionals from abroad who have high-caliber skills and expertise, China Daily reported.

Holders of China's talent visas enjoy a longer stay in the country and will be given easier entry and working procedures, sources said. The family members of the R visa holders can also be issued ordinary visas easily.

The announcement came almost a year after the State Council issued a draft legislation that aims to entice foreign professionals to China by granting them residency of up to five years.

Among the professionals that are urgently needed in China are senior management professionals, senior specialists at global firms, senior science and education professionals, cultural and sports figures that are known globally, and other high-end international talents.

Flexible Green Card Application

Early this week, the Chinese government said it will consider more pragmatic and more flexible application systems for foreigners who want get a China green card. The move is part of the country's efforts to recruit more skilled foreign workers.

Launched 10 years ago, the country's green card policy affords permanent residency for foreign professionals with high-end expertise and experience and for people with large investments or notable contributions to the country.

The Organizational Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China said China is considering lowering the application and approval process for the green card to further entice talented foreign professionals.

China also launched a program that provide incentives and opportunities to Chinese investors and professionals who are located around the world should they decide to go back to China.
