Apple iOS 8.1.2 Update Fails To Fix Battery Life Issues

apple-ios-8

Apple's latest 8.1.2 update to iOS has not fixed some of the underlying battery life issues.

Apple has never put battery life on its top features, sticking to the 8 to 10 hours motto since the beginning of the iPhone.

iOS 8 has offered even less than the usual mediocre battery life however, with users reporting 4 to 5 hours max on the iPhone 6 and 2 to 3 hours more on the iPhone 6 Plus.

The issue doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon either, on the new iOS 8.1.2 update, users are still reporting poor battery life across all devices running iOS 8.

Standby time has dropped significantly and watching videos is detrimental, in most of our tests the iPhone 6 struggles to last a full night taking only photos.

It is not just hurting iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users, iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C users are also having the same battery issues, ever since the update to iOS 8.

Screen brightness and location settings seem to be two key factors for worse battery life. Lowering the screen brightness and not using auto-brightness should resolve some of the issues, alongside turning off location settings for third-party apps.

Apple added a variety of new APIs for iOS 8, which may cause issues on the new device, alongside the new updates to Touch ID, iCloud and cellular data potentially eating away at battery life.

Checking the 'Battery Usage' page in settings should also fix some of the issues, showing third-party apps that eat up a lot of battery life. Apple also runs applications in the background, but double tapping and swiping the applications away should save battery life.

Apple has not commented on the battery life issues plaguing iOS 8.1.2.
