Is Niall Horan, one-fifth of the global boy band sensation, One Direction, leaving the group? If celebrity news sites Sugarscape and Yahoo Celebrity UK are to be believed then, yes--at least, until they backtracked and revealed they were the victims of a cyber attacker.  

Both news outfits tweeted about Niall breaking up the quintet which threw fans of the group into a frenzy. Sugarscape announced the news first, with Yahoo Celebrity UK reporting the news a little after.

But apparently, the news is nothing more than a cruel hack.

A representative for the boy band immediately released a statement regarding the rumor and assured fans that there is absolutely no truth to it.

Indeed, One Direction is one of the biggest boy bands in recent history, and Niall leaving band mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik in the lurch doesn't make any sense.

Regardless, speculation regarding the group breaking up prompted the hashtag #ReasonsNiallLeftOneDirection to become a trending topic on Twitter, with numerous fans and curious news seekers lending their theories as to why Niall intends to disband at this stage of their very successful careers.

After an official rep from the band spoke up, both news outfits have since explained the source of their contentious scoop as well.

Sugarscape, who has since taken down the tweet announcing Niall's departure from One Direction, says that they were hacked.

"Just to confirm, Niall is NOT leaving One Direction. We were hacked, innit. #reasonsniallleftonedirection," Sugarscape explained.

And Yahoo Celebrity UK also tweeted an explanation and reiterated that Niall is in fact staying with the group--

 "Morning everyone. Just so you know, Niall Horan isn't in fact leaving 1D, our account was hacked last night. We repeat, Niall isn't leaving."
