Sony has announced at its Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference on Monday that the PlayStation Vita TV game console will be launched in the US and Canada this fall.

The PlayStation TV will be priced at $99, not including the controller. The company also has a $139 package that includes its own DualShock Controller, one copy of the Lego Movie video game, and one memory card for storing downloaded games, wrote TechCrunch.

The game console is made to work well with most of the games available on the company's portal game console PlayStation Vita. The games can be downloaded later on from the PlayStation store.

PlayStation TV will allow its users to access Sony's game "streaming" service PlayStation Now. The latter will have around 100 PlayStation 3 titles and over 20 free games for PlayStation Now.

Those with PlayStation 4 will also be able to stream games to multiple televisions in their home using the PlayStation TV.

The set-top box for game streaming was launched in Japan last year, CNET reported. The device basically allows players to play their favorite PlayStation games from any television in their homes.

Sony said the PlayStation TV bridges the gap between television and portable game console. Although its main focus is gaming, the device will also allow users to stream media entertainment content from Hulu and other similar services.

According to Deadline, the international launching of the PlayStation TV "micro-console" creates a new competitor for Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, and other companies in the already crowded market of game consoles. However, Sony's main difference from its rivals may lie in the access to a wide variety of older video games for its users.

Sony has also announced several other developments with its products and services in the E3 press conference. Included in the announcements is the open beta testing for the PlayStation Now service on the PS4 consoles beginning July 31, with plans to roll out the service to other PlayStation devices later on.
