Origin users are reporting unauthorized game purchases on their accounts, pointing to EA's platform falling victim to a hack.

Reports started circulating on Origin forums and Reddit, and it doesn't appear to be one person. EA is asking users to change passwords and add two-step verification, to ensure potential hackers cannot take control.

Other potential steps to stop unauthorized purchases include removing any payment information stored on Origin, especially a credit or debit card.

EA has confirmed none of its databases have been hit by an attack, but 1.7 million Origin accounts were stolen by hacking group DerpTrolling in November. These accounts may have been sold on the black market by the hacking group.

The attackers seem to be using the accounts to buy video games and in some cases, start playing the titles on the user's account. One user apparently found the attacker "farming coins" in FIFA 15.

EA customer support is open to anyone affected and generally seems to be fixing the issues. The attacks appear to be situated in the U.S., meaning players outside of North America may be safe, but it is still best to change passwords and enable two-step verification.

EA's official statement:

"We found no indication at this point of a breach of our Origin account database," an EA rep said. "Privacy and security of user account information are of the utmost importance to us. We encourage our players to use Origin user ID and passwords that are unique to their account, and to report any activity they feel may be unauthorized to EA customer support at help.ea.com."
