PlayStation users experienced several issues with the PlayStation Network over the holidays. But not all is lost for gamers, as Sony announced it will reward PSN users for their patience.

The PlayStation Network was experiencing several problems when it was hit with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on December 24. The attack, along with the mass amount of traffic that comes with the holiday season, caused the network's servers to have problems for several days.

Gamers were unable to experience holiday downloadable content or capitalize on holiday deals in the online PlayStation Store. But in light of the holiday season, Sony will be rewarding gamers who were impacted during the online outages.

All members who had a PS Plus membership or free trial on December 25 will be given a free five-day extension to the service. The extension will automatically be applied once the user logs in to the account, so no further action is required from gamers.

In addition, Sony is also offering all PSN users a 10 percent discount code on any total purchase. The one-time discount can be used for anything such as games, movies, or add-ons. Sony said that it would be giving out the discount code "sometime this month."

Sony is also giving gamers the opportunity to purchase holiday deals and has extended its PlayStation Store Holiday Sale until Jan. 6.

"Thanks again to all our loyal PlayStation fans and welcome to our newest console owners. Wishing you all a very happy holiday," Sony said in its announcement.
