Mirai Botnet Spreads to Thousands of UK Routers

A new variant of Mirai, the botnet that nearly crippled half of Germany’s Internet service, has spread across the United Kingdom infecting about 2,400 home routers. Security researchers said that these infected routers are being used to carry out massive distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS).
Hacking Group Rewards Hackers for Participating in DDoS Attacks

A cyberattack group based in Turkey is offering interested hackers to join a dedicated distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) platform and earn points which can then be exchanged for certain hacking tools. The platform is called Surface Defense and it asks hackers to target political websites using a DDoS tool called Balyoz which literally translates to Sledgehammer.
