ATV On The Verge Of Collapsing

ATV Halts Broadcast, Employees A 'No-Show'

(Photo : Reuters) ATV has officially ceased broadcasting after its license expires on April 2.

As ATV struggles to pay its worker their wages, it is on the verge of collapsing. The company reportedly paid only half of their November wages to their staff this past week. The company still owes its workers their unpaid wages for the remaining weeks of November and for the full month of December.

Many resignations were reportedly sent because of ATV's future in jeopardy. Rumors have speculated that a mass resignation would occur.

Yet the ATV representative Wong Sau Tung, clarified the speculation and said that almost 90% of the staff show up for work on the 2nd day of 2015.

Most of ATV's shows have been scaled down due to problems in staffing.

For Good Morning Asia, the daily morning show's airing time was cut short because of the lack of staff.  Even the best shows such as Asian Entertainment and Asia Policy Unit were axed off as well.

The shows which replaced their timeslots were reruns of Light Of Million Hopes and the South Korean Drama Definitely Neighbors.

Lau Shek Yin, an ATV actor, was seen arriving at ATV to film a new program called ATV is one family.  He has expressed that its purpose is to send positive vibes among the staff.

The program will feature ATV's former and current workers in an interview. Lau said, "Everyone seems to be okay! Many people have gone back to work. I don't feel like there's less staff."

The actor still has 8 months left in his contract and professionally abides with it. He has stood by his principles to honor the spirit of the contract.

When asked about ATV's fate,  Lau has answered," There's nothing we can do about it. I can say it's a pity. If it has to happen, it will happen."

ATV has been established as Hong Kong's free to air Chinese television station for 57 years.
