Microsoft Unveils Nokia 215, $29 Feature Phone

Microsoft has announced one of the cheapest phones in its whole smartphone range, the Nokia 215, costing only $29.
Microsoft today unveiled the Nokia 215, a budget feature phone for developing nations and people who don't need any of the fancy smartphone features.
Going under the Nokia brand, which Microsoft allegedly killed off last year, the Nokia 215 will arrive in Middle East, Africa and Asia in the first quarter of this year, and should come to South America and parts of Europe throughout the rest of 2015.

The budget handset only costs $29, meaning it is the bottom of the line in terms of price, excellent for first time buyers. It is not the cheapest phone Microsoft sells, that honor still goes to the Nokia 130, which costs a mere $25.
In terms of specs the Nokia 215 is bottom of the line, with a single-core chip and 2G EDGE wireless technology. It features a 2.4-inch screen and the classic button layout for messaging and calls. Microsoft's big feature on the Nokia 215 is actually an app, Facebook Messenger. On the Nokia 130 Facebook is not available, but Microsoft has pre-installed it for customers.
Facebook has a strong pull all across the world, and Facebook Messenger is widely used, with over 500 million downloads worldwide. Still, WhatsApp may have been a better choice if Microsoft wanted to interest low-end buyers in Asia.
Opera Mini browser and Bing! Search are both pre-loaded onto the Nokia 215 for more application involvement.
Microsoft acquired Nokia for $7.2 billion and has been slowly removing the 'Nokia' brand from smartphones, but in developing nations Nokia still has a lot of pull with the market, while Lumia does not mean anything.
