China has erected a wall about 72-feet high around its naval base in Liaoning province to keep prying eyes from seeing the installation, state-run China News Service reported on Monday.
The wall, which runs around the Dalian city naval base with a length of nearly half a mile, was constructed at a cost of about $1.6 million. CNS reported that the wall was built because a nearby cluster of European-style villas was too tall.

Violations of building height limits have threatened China's military facilities including naval base and airports.
The People's Liberation Army said more than 10 military airports have been moved or closed due to safety concerns. Hangzhou Jianqiao Airport, built nearly 75 years ago, is known as the "cradle of China's air forces" yet dozens of nearby high-rise buildings have gone beyond height limits.
A revised measure banning buildings and structures from going beyond clearance limits in reserve areas took effect on August 1 last year.
Meanwhile, China has sent a navy frigate to help search for the debris of the downed AirAsia plane that disappeared on Sunday. The frigate, Huangshan, has reached the southern South China Sea, a PLA navy statement said. The PLA said the navy is preparing more forces for the rescue efforts to make sure they can reach the search zone in a timely way.
AirAsia flight QZ8501, which had 162 people on board, was flying from Surabaya to Singapore when it went missing on Sunday.
A wide search has been underway for the past three days to pinpoint the location of the missing aircraft.
They have started fishing dozens of bodies out of the sea. Of the 162 people in the plane, 155 people on board are passengers -- one Malaysian, one British, one Singaporean, three South Koreans, 149 Indonesians - while seven crewmembers include Indonesians and a French co-pilot.
