Smartphone maker OnePlus founder Carl Pei has announced that the company achieved a huge milestone in surpassing 1 million sales, after narrowly missing 1 million by the end of 2014.

In an interview with PC World, Pei talks about how he never expected OnePlus to become so successful in such a short period of time, hence the invite system being set-up.

Pei is also sorry for U.S. customers who experienced poor customer service and lackluster shipping speed, claiming OnePlus is a new company and still needs time to grow and learn from past mistakes.

Even though OnePlus One has only just surpassed 1 million sales, if OnePlus kept supply in order the company could have easily gained over 5 million sales, according to several analysts.

There will be two new OnePlus smartphones coming in the next six months, including the successor to the OnePlus One. The other will be, in Pei's words, cater "to a different type of audience... Perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs."

The smartphone Pei is referring to could be the OnePlus One Mini, a smaller version of the flagship, although this would not account for the design choices OnePlus has made, if it is only meant to be a smaller copy of the OnePlus One.

OnePlus may have a ruined reputation for many customers, still angry at the pathetic campaigns forcing users to break their old devices, amongst other radical and stupid ideas OnePlus' advertising team decided were a good idea.

However, Pei claims it is a new company that wants to provide customers with the best experience possible, and for all of the PR issues, the OnePlus One is still one of the best smartphones of 2014.
