U.S. President Barack Obama recently launched another set of proposals that could possibly benefit millions of Americans, as he pushed for paid sick and family leave for working parents, and to private-sector employees for the second time.

The law will be called the "Healthy Families Act," and it would require employers with at least 15 employees to allow them to have at least seven days of paid leave ,or one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours of working. The leave could be used for personal care, taking care of relatives, or to deal with medical or legal issues that are related to domestic abuse.

Obama is said to reimburse $2.2 billion to states for the years of costs that would be implementing paid family and medical leaves as California, New Jersey, and Rhode Island have been practicing this.

Obama discussed juggling work and family life with a group of women at a café in Baltimore that offers paid sick leave to its employees. Approximately 43 million Americans do not get paid leave, which he said was a "pretty astonishing statistic."

The president added that it is an issue that exceeds the demographics but pointed out that the government can actually do something about it. Obama is reportedly to talk about the issue again on Tuesday in time of his State of the Union address.

The president signed a memo on Thursday about his proposal, and one of the conditions was that he was ordering that federal employees could get at least six weeks of paid leave when there will be a new member of the family. He also urged the Congress to extend the family leave benefits for other workers.

White House senior adviser Valerie Jarret also pointed out on Wednesday that the U.S. is the only developed country that does not offer a paid maternity leave.
