Marriott Wants To Bring Netflix, Hulu And Pandora To Hotels

Marriott is hoping to win over customers with Netflix, Hulu and Pandora availability inside hotel rooms.

Following a rather controversial move to try and block guest's Wi-Fi connection, Marriott Hotels is trying to get back in customer's good books with Netflix, Hulu and Pandora support on hotel televisions.

The new service is part of a test to see how customers will respond to streaming services available at any time, and is currently available in eight of the company's hotels.

Guests will be able to sign-in to their personal accounts on the three streaming services and browse all of the available content. Marriott will add the services onto its own television interface, making it more accessible to guests.

Marriott has not made an official statement on the new development, meaning we still don't know if guests pay extra for the services, or if it is tacked on to certain hotel rooms. The former might give streaming services an extra slice of revenue.

Netflix, Hulu and Pandora are the new ways to streaming music and video, making them valuable in hotels where guests may want to binge watch television at nights.

The price for the streaming services might be a deal breaker, while $5 for a few days of Netflix use in a hotel might seem cheap, that is almost as much as a month of Netflix subscription.

Marriott is not known for doing things cheap however, so the price is likely more than that, if the Marriott includes a price for the service at all. Normally hotels make guests pay for TV usage, so this may be tacked onto the TV service charge.

The new streaming service implementation allows Marriott to move past the $600,000 fine from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for tampering with guest's Wi-Fi connection. Marriott dropped an open letter to the FCC to try and get Wi-Fi blocking in hotels legalized, saying it has "listened to customer feedback", but reports say Marriott will still try to block Wi-Fi access in certain locations.
