Kia Motors' 2014 Forte sedan's cooling fan resistor has a tendency to overheat and melt, risking burning the vehicle and possibly its riders. There have been several units that had engine fires possibly due to the faulty resistor, although no injuries of accidents were reported.
Because of that problem, the South Korea automaker informed the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Saturday that it would recall 86,880 Forte sedans sold in the United States. The recalls would begin on February 24, reports Empire State Tribune.

Car dealers would replace the cooling fan resistor and multifuse unit. Kia will also provide all owners of that model an updated engine control unit software.
The recall affect Forte models manufacture from December 5, 2012 through April 17, 2014.
Owners of the said model who need additional information about the recall may call Kia at 1-800-333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
Kia had previously recalled 2010 Kia Soul and 2011 Kia Sorrento models for faulty wiring harness, 2007-2010 Rondo, 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, 2010-2011 Soul, 2008-2011 Optima, 2010 Forte, 2007-2009 Amanti and 2009 Borrego for malfunctioning stop lamp switch.
Kia logged a 54 percent decline in profit for the fourth quarter of 2014 because of the weak Russian economy.
