Major news agencies like CNN look to partner up with the fast-growing and famous chat app, Snapchat. They look to capitalize on the app's capability of sharing news stories and entertainment. Will their aspirations be realized with Snapchat?
In line with the move of news agencies, last Tuesday, Snapchat introduced a new section of their app called "Discover." This section is the news section of the app and will deal with a number of publishers who will program the channels.

Every news story in the "Discover" section will be viewable for 24 hours. The duration is much longer than that of the messages used in Snapchat.
CNN plans to take part in the action by having five news stories daily on their channel. These stories will be selected by their editors and producers.
Samantha Barry, head of social news in CNN, indicated that the news organization could use the functions of Snapchat to include much more context in their news stories.
"They are visually-led with great images and videos, but when you swipe up, you will get great CNN context with more images, text and background," she says.
It looks as if major news organizations are joining CNN in Snapchat as well. Other publishers include ESPN and Vice.
It seems that the potential for Snapchat has started spilling over though, as even non-news organizations such as Cosmo, Comedy Central, National Geographic, the Food Network, MTV People, and much more will also publish articles there.
The other companies look to use Snapchat's new section to publicize some of their programs. All these new companies want to break into the new social media network that reportedly has 100,000 million users a month.
In turn, Snapchat will be sharing in ad revenue that publishers earn from their snaps. CNN, for instance, has sold an exclusive sponsorship for its Snapchat channel to BMW North America.
In the case of CNN though, they are not seeking to move wholly to Snapchat. Barry said that people will be able to find content through Snapchat, and get more information from their other avenues.
