Academy Award Nominee Bradley Cooper expressed the fact that he didn't expect that the movie American Sniper, which was inspired by the real life story of a late Navy SEAL sharpshooter Chris Kyle, would incite a charged political conversation. Cooper revealed this to a group of reporters in the Academy Awards Nominee luncheon last Monday, according to Reuters.

"You never know when you make a movie if anybody's going to see it, so to have the audacity to think it would cause any sort of effect at all would be pretty presumptuous," says Cooper.

"Any discussion that sheds light to the plight of the soldiers and the men and women in the armed services, for that discussion to occur is fantastic," he further added.

The movie became a hot topic among the liberals and conservatives in a public U.S. debate for its depiction of war, soldiers and eventually Director Clint Eastwood's portrayal of the history of war leading to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The head of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee also expressed concern on how the movie made its members a target of 'violent threats' and received backlash from the moviegoers on Twitter.

The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee wrote two identical letters sent to both Cooper and Eastwood, requesting that they condemn the violent rhetoric depicted in the film.

Eastwood, a supporter of the veterans has addressed this concern, saying that the movie clearly has nothing to do with party politics.

American Sniper topped the US box office and grossed over US$250 million. The movie already received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
