Ford Motors and Petty's Garage recently joined forces build a souped-up limited edition Mustang GT.
The inspiration for the 627 horsepower dream-racing machine was from the well-received Mustang Petty's Garage exhibited at last year's Las Vegas SEMA show.
Petty's Garage COO Jeff Whaley said his company received incredible interest in the Petty's Garage Mustang GT so he looked into the possibility of putting together a limited run of the vehicle. Only 43 Stage 2 Ford Mustangs are expected to be built, along with a 100 Stage 1 Mustangs.

The Stage 1 will be upgraded with a boost in performance and slicker appearance. It will be fitted with a Petty's Garage skin complete with a darkened grille and lower driving lights. The rear fascia will have a center exhaust and a NASCAR-inspired spoiler.
Interior upgrades include "The King" dashboard autograph, uniquely embroidered head restraints and floor mats.
Power is a premium in any limited- or special-edition Mustang and the new road muscle is upgraded with a Roush/Ford Racing supercharger, custom engine calibration and cold air intake. It will blow smoke with an exhaust system from MagnaFlow.
With the modifications, output will peak at 627 horsepower, much higher than the usual 435.
The new Mustang wears custom-built 20-inch wheels of Petty's Garage HRE FlowForm standards fitted with Continental tires.
The Stage 2 version gets advanced braking with a Petty's Garage Wilwood upgrade and a dual-tone paint job.
Fans of Mustang muscle cars will notice the Stage 2 Mustang's paint job is modeled after the 2014 SEMA show version.
More than the basic colors, the coating will be made with "crushed-and-tumbled" glass with the unique Petty Blue paint. The blue will be seen on the sides and fenders of the Mustang GT while the roof, declid and hood will get a custom triple-coat pearlescent mix of Ford Tuxedo Black that goes well with blue for the upper half.
Ford said the Stage 1 Mustang GT will be sold at $62,210, while the rarer Stage 2 will go for a cool $92,210.
