The Academy Awards otherwise known as the Oscars will hold lots of surprises in store and the sight of actors and directors swathed in formal attire is already a target for the glamour lovers and fashion police. The much anticipated event will be airing today and here are the 16 things to anticipate in this upcoming event, according to MSN Entertainment.

1.      Neil Patrick Harris as the Seasoned Host.

Barney Stinson of How I Met Your Mother will be presenting a musical number called "Moving Pictures".

2.      Eddie Murphy is booked as a presenter.

We remember how Eddie Murphy's acting wowed us during the early 90s. When he voiced Donkey in the animated movie Shrek, everyone still loves him.

There was speculation of bad blood between Murphy and the Oscars, so when he was booked as a presenter this year, most people can't help but say it is rather miraculous.

Last week, Eddie Murphy returned to Saturday Night Live after 31 years, so anything can be possible.

3.      John Travolta as a presenter.

The 'Pulp Fiction' star mispronounced Idina Menzel's name last year, giving her the name Adele Dazeem. Everyone now keeps their fingers crossed that he won't announce any names which are hard to pronounce.

4.      Appeal To Youth

The young presenters to watch out for are Ansel Elgort, Josh Hutcherson, Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Miles Teller.

5.      Riley Hamilton's Presence

The public has high hopes for the kid actor's movie, Boogaloo and Graham, to win the Best Live Action Short Film.

6.      Team Oscar

The winners of these aspiring filmmakers will be introduced by Channing Tatum.

7.      Musical Numbers

Various artists will belt out the Oscar nominated songs with the likes of John Legend, Common and Rita Ora. Maroon 5 and Tim McGraw will be there as well.

8.      Even More Musical Numbers

Anna Kendrick is booked to sing at the event. The newly engaged Lady Gaga will also perform a tribute performance.

9.      SciTech Awards

Margot Robbie and Miles Teller will serve as the presenter.

10.   Governor's Award

A brief montage will be shown to pay homage to honorees such as Harry Belafonte, Maureen O'Hara, Hayao Miyazaki and Jean Claude Carriere.

11.  Selfie Jokes

The Oscar selfie last year will never be superceded. However, it's better that the audience prepare themselves for a lot of selfie jokes.

12.  The Potential Winners

Let the drum roll begin.

13.  Losers

These people will comprise eighty percent of the Nominees, but we may never know, sometimes an underdog always rises from the surface.

14.  Necrology

The Academy Awards event will definitely pay homage to recently departed Mickey Rooney, who was still very much alive in the Night At The Museum 3 movie.

15.  Wooziness

The winners don't appear dazed because of overwhelming emotion, they also have been famished for hours. Given that only champagne is the only thing served throughout the event.

The Governor's Ball, the official Oscar afterparty will definitely be something to look forward to, Wagyu beef steak and Chicken pot pie are on top of the list.

16.  Start Brewing Your Coffee

The Academy Awards is a four hour event, which will be simultaneously aired worldwide for everyone to see. Regardless of which time zone you belong in, it always helps to have coffee to prevent dozing off during the best highlighted moments.
