Apple is reportedly planning to offer an open-beta program for iOS users this year following a very successful OS X Yosemite program.

It will release its mobile update after the WWDC 2015 conference in June through the AppleSeed program. This will give people a first look at iOS 9 before it launches commercially with the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus and reported 6S Mini.

The Apple's OS X Yosemite open-beta program brought in one million testers that provided a lot of feedback and bug alerts to programmers. It's not clear how much of the feedback went into the final product considering minimal changes from beta to launch.

The 74 million iPhone sales last quarter mean Apple could attract millions of mobile users onto the program. Since one of the biggest updates coming to iOS 9 will be bug fixes and addressing performance issues, this could be a massive help.

It's not clear if Apple will limit the number of beta testers allowed to download considering the risk that once the update is downloaded, people might get stuck on a faulty version of iOS.

Quality assurance has become a big factor for Apple as it contends with iCloud leaks and zero-day vulnerabilities on its iOS platform. This open-beta program has been used by Microsoft and Google before, allowing them to check any bugs before a live launch.

No official date has been announced by Apple but more information should be available in June.
