Oculus Offering $1 Million Prizes for Innovative Gear VR Apps

Oculus has launched a new software jam for the Gear VR.
Samsung might be in charge of making the hardware for the Gear VR and the companion smartphone but it's Oculus working on the software and services.
To get app and game developers interested in the new headset, Oculus is now offering up to $1 million on innovative experiences added to the Gear VR.

The Mobile VR Jam 2015 will be hosted by Oculus and 26 winners will be announced, all getting investment in small projects for the Gear VR.
The winning game experience will receive $200,000 and the winning app experience will receive $100,000. Oculus will start taking pitches on April 20 with no immediately close date.
Considering Oculus was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion last year, this new promotion is pocket change for the virtual reality service and might even be partly funded by Samsung.
The Gear VR doesn't seem to be winning many fans due to the necessary Galaxy Note 4 smartphone. It also lacks mobile VR games and apps that Oculus has available on its own virtual reality headset.
The world of virtual reality is starting to take off, but in a different market augmented reality is starting to become a big interest.
Microsoft HoloLens and Magic Leap are two interesting concepts but neither are available for developers to test.
