Google Working on Futuristic Sci-Fi Campus

Google is planning an ambitious new project to upgrade its Mountain View campus, focused on bringing nature, modulation and glass together in an innovative design.

Architects Bjarke Ingels and Thomas Heatherwick will be working on the design of the superplex and on a series of smaller buildings for each division to work inside.

The new campus will be open to members of the public and located in and around the lakes and woodland areas of Silicon Valley, which are rapidly decreasing as more companies center their operations in the area.

One key goal for Google is to have everyone travel on a diverse set of transport, including bike tracks and self-driving car spots. This means the likelihood of completion could be after 2020, when California is likely to validate self-driving cars on the road.

There will be a mixture of relaxation and recreation zones for Google employees and the public, alongside Wi-Fi everywhere for members of the public to connect on mobiles.

It seems like the perfect utopia of nature, technology and creativity, and Google is clearly looking to win over the state regulators by making this zone available for public use.

The development will cost a few billion although Google hasn't given any firm figures. The growth of the internet giant over the past five years in numbers of employees, alongside CEO Larry Page's goal of hiring 100,000 engineers, means it needs more room to grow.

Google's mobile rival is also working on a new campus, named Apple's spaceship campus. The campus is being built in the shape of a starship and brings the same ideals of open spaces for creativity and lots of woodland.
