The Bristol County District Attorney's Office filed on Friday involuntary manslaughter charges against 18-year-old Michelle Carter of Plainville, Massachusetts, for encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide.

According to county prosecutors, 18-year-old Conrad Roy of Mattapoisett drove his truck on July 13, 2014, to the K-Mart in Fairhaven with a gas generator. Upon arriving at the store, he sent an SMS to Carter to tell her that he was not sure if he should push through with his plan to take his life.

Court documents said that her reply was "Get back in." Prior to Roy's suicide, the two had a series of text messages, which aroused the suspicion of police as to the role that Carter played, reports People.com.

In charging Carter, Bristol County DA spokesman Greg Miliote said, "Instead of attempting to assist him or notify school officials, a counselor, a family member, anyone, Miss Carter is alleged to have strongly influenced his decision to take his own life, encouraged him to commit suicide on multiple occasions and guided him through the process, including the engage of activities that ultimately led to his death," quotes Fox.

In September, she even organized a fundraiser named "Homers for Conrad" to raise awareness about suicide. She is scheduled to return to court in April 17.

Janice Roy, the grandmother of Carter questioned if Carter really loved Conrad because she should have prevented him from taking his life instead of encouraging him.
