The Miami Dolphins are hopeful that an agreement between with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will be reached.

For a while, Suh has been deemed as the best free agent defensive tackle by many people.

Though a prize defensive tackle like Suh would attract many teams, the Dolphins are confident that they will be able to acquire him when the free agency opens up on Tuesday.

The Dolphins' journey to acquiring Suh began last Saturday when they started negotiating with his agent as they are still not able to talk to the player directly. They began work on building a suitable contract for Suh.

Suh's contract is something that really needs to be worked on, as his multi-year contract is expected to reach nine figures. This is a record for any defensive player in the National Football League (NFL).

His previous contract with the Detroit Lions will be expiring soon.

Hailed as one of the best defensive tackles in his generation, Suh has been a three-time first-team All Pro pick.

Other than the Dolphins, the Oakland Raiders and his old Lions team were expected to bid for Suh.

However, the Dolphins were keen on improving their defensive capabilities. Their first step in doing so was releasing a 10-year veteran to create salary cap space. The second step was the hunt for Suh.

Through five playing seasons, Suh has made 35 sacks including 8 and ½ in 2014. This year saw the Lions make the playoffs with one of the league's top defenses.

While skilled at his position, Suh has run into considerable problems on the field.

He has been fined several times for aggressive behavior on the field and was nearly suspended for a playoff game last season.

The Dolphins have always had an aggressive approach to free agency. In 2013, they went hard for receiver Mike Wallace, while the following year saw them get left tackle Branden Albert.
