Third-Party Wearables Booted Out of Apple Stores

(Photo : Reuters) The Apple Watch appears to be a hit, at least on some models.

Apple is booting out all of the third-party wearables out of Apple Stores, both retail and online, in a move to bring as much attention to the Apple Watch as possible.

The list of wearables available to buy on the Apple Store was already thin. Jawbone UP and the Nike+ Fuelband were the two major ones following the removal of FitBit products in 2014.

It's clear Apple sees these products as a threat to the potential success of the Apple Watch, which offers the same fitness features in a more expensive bundle.

The Apple Watch was announced in October but Apple held another event earlier this week to go over the details, including battery life and price. Apple is working hard with developers to make sure the first edition is the best it can be. It brought in several developers, including United Airlines, Facebook and Uber to its Cupertino HQ to fine-tune apps.

Even though the early response to the Apple Watch was largely negative with tech enthusiasts criticizing the overzealous price for the Apple Watch Edition, the wearable is expected to ship to millions of customers this year.

If the Apple Watch fails to deliver, it could send Apple stocks plummeting even with the high demand for the iPhone and growth of the Mac. Apple really needs to win confidence in Tim Cook's vision of Apple's future and the first step is the Apple Watch.
