Number seven seed Wichita State Shockers live up to their name and upset the number two seed Kansas Jayhawks (78-65). With the win, the Shockers advance to their second sweet 16 in three seasons.

The Shockers and Jayhawks are geographical rivals. Kansas Coach Bill Self has stated that he will never schedule Wichita State, as he sees no benefit to matching up with them.

That won't likely change any time soon as the Shockers embarrass the Jayhawks in a round of 32 elimination.

Early on in the game, there were no indications of how the game was going to end. The Jayhawks were defending against the Shockers in the first 20 minutes.

In the first half, the Shocker's were held to .853 points per possession (PPP).

However, as the game wore on the Shocker's PPP rate started to increase to 1.36 with the help of raining three point shots, lay up shots from 50-50 balls, and half court execution.

The Jayhawks on the other hand were held to .97 PPP. This was a direct result of pressure from Tekele Cotton whose hustle on the court made it hard for the guards of the Jayhawks.

In addition, Ron Baker also had good defense that really helped against their opponent's perimeter shooting, while Fred VanFleet contributed to his team with the use of his quick hands.

Kansas Freshman Guard Devonte' Graham said that the Shockers forced the Jayhawks to run offense at their pace. This then forced the Jayhawks to initiate the offense off-balance.

The Shockers move on and meet number three seed Notre Dame. The matchup is an intriguing one as both teams are small-ball squads.

Both teams like to dot three-point takers along the perimeter, utilize the pick and roll, and use a three guard lineup with a wing-forward at the 4.
