French President Francois Holland said on Tuesday that the chances of survival of a Germanwings aircraft that crashed in a remote region in France is unlikely. He said, "It's a tragedy on our soil."
The 24-year old A320 crashed on Tuesday in the French Alps while it was on its way to the Dusseldorf in Germany from Barcelona in Spain. The ill-fated jet had 148 people on board composed of 142 passengers and six crew members.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls confirmed the crash near Digne les Baines in the Alpes de Haute Provence region. The time of the crash was placed at 10:30 am, according to French Police Capt Benoit Zesser, reports CNN.
French Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said the debris from the crash has been located. The Alps, the crash site, has an altitude of 2,000 meters.
Zesser said that the difficult terrain would make it hard for rescuers to reach the place. The plane was almost halfway between Barcelona and Dusseldorf, which is a rare instance since crashes usually take place when the aircraft just takes off or is about to land, according to CNN aviation analyst David Soucie.
Germanwings did not officially confirm the crash yet, but it had previously tweeted that it does not have any confirmed information, but has launched an investigation, said Lufthansa spokesman Kim Jucknat. Lufthansa is the parent company of Germanwings, a budget carrier.
Germanwings has no prior record of accident. The average age of Germanwings' fleet is nine years old, but the one that crashed is 24 years old, BBC reports.
