“The Walking Dead” Season 5 finale episode was the most watched and the highest rated finale in the history of TV shows. This proves that the AMC horror show’s viewership just keeps on growing.

According to Daily Mail, the finale episode of the show’s fifth season, which ran for 90 minutes, had an impressive total of 15.8 million viewers, and 10.4 million of which belong to the highly sought after demographic age of 18 to 49 years old. What made this even more impressive was that it had to compete with WWE’s marquee event, “Wrestlemania” and the recent “iHeart Radio Music Awards.”

The report also stated that Andrew Lincoln, who plays the lead role of Rick Grimes, had a major part in helping bring the show to its current success.

These huge numbers also carried on to the show on the next time slot, which was “The Talking Dead,” hosted by Chris Hardwick. It also had its highest rated episodes that same night, garnering 7.5 million viewers.

The zombie drama, which is based on the comic book series that was created by Robert Kirkman, was followed in the top rated list by Fox’s “Empire.”

“The Walking Dead” has been consistently successful that a spinoff show will be premiering this summer, entitled, “Fear the Walking Dead.” Kirkman confirmed the news about the show when he took to his official Twitter page to inform everyone about it.

“It is official!” he wrote. “‘The Walking Dead’ companion show on AMC is called ‘Fear the Walking Dead’! Expect more news very soon! #FearTheWalkingDead.”

Unlike, “The Walking Dead,” which was primarily set in Atlanta, Georgia, this new show will reportedly be set in Los Angeles and will be focusing on events that transpired before the zombie apocalypse started. E! Online has previously reported that Kim Dickens from “Gone Girl,” Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam, and Cliff Curtis will be part of the spinoff show’s cast.
